James has spent the past 12 years of his career working throughout Asia in such countries as China, Thailand and now India. Chef James will cater to the local tastes imbibing the best of both worlds. As Executive Chef, he will monitor the culinary aspect of the hotel and share his years of culinary knowledge and experience.
Born and raised in the United States, Chef James showed an interest in food at an early age at his uncles restaurant and during summers he would help his mother and grandmother can their own pickles, tomatoes, and fruit jams.
As a teenager, his first job was in a small café as a dishwasher where because of his passion and curiosity, a young Sous Chef took him under his wing and started teaching him the basic skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career as a chef. Upon having the necessary recommendations, he went on to study and graduate at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America.
Having gained years of experience and knowledge in the hospitality industry, he succeeded in capturing the attention of food critics and writers both locally and nationally in the United States.
Prior to joining the JW Marriott Mumbai, Chef James Reppuhn has worked for such notable hotel groups as Aman Resorts, Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton and with Celebrity Chef Mark Miller.
Interests and hobbies include, dining, traveling, reading and various sporting events.
