Preheat the oven to 180 c,gas mark 4.Lightly butter two 20cm cake tins and line the bases with greaseproof paper.
Place the egg yolks and sugar into a clean bowl and whisk well with a hand whisk for 2-3 minutes,then add the cocoa powder.
In a large bowl,whisk the whites until firm,then carefully fold them into the egg yolk mixture.
Pour the mixture into the cake tins,level the top with a palette knife and bake for about 15 minutes.Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before turning out wire racks.
