Perhaps I went too soon. The smell of polish was still there. The verandah was sparce for fear of what happened to Zenzi and the eager management was superlative rather than the food.Ordered the sangria which was served in lovely flasks and are a must do. Sweet enough to suck down, the conversation only gets easier for it. The Brischeta was not nice. The cheese... well. It didnt work for us. The mushroom rissotto was ok and the pasta was too. But the chicken was beaten and then dried out. so no points there. Weskipped dessert because the main course just didnt do the trick.
The bathrooms. Okay so the men's loo has the same M on it that the Zenzi management had. The women's loo has a pair of coconuts stuck on it. Complete with holes in the centre. Funny? Nope. Offensive? Yes. General consensus on the table was that either you put a banana on the men's loo or bring back the dignified W on the ladies' loo. This didnt pass muster.
So the food was okay, the drinks were par for the course and decor seems to lack thought and continuity. I didnt really get why they names it The Lager Bay. What I got what an explanation of what a Lager Bay is. There was no beer celebration in the menu or the decor and so the name really didn't stick. The music is nice, especially for the over 25s yet not too retro. It is a grown up place, I grant them that. It is new and will pick up, but i think, what it lacks is personality at this point and thats a tough one.
