36 Oak & Barley. The name tells me nothing about the type of food I am going to get once I get to this new eatery in Mumbai's busy Kemp's Corner. Home to East and Nish before this, 36 Oak & Barley I found had something for everyone. Sandwiches, Grills, Pizzas, Pastas and well portioned Continental and Asian Main Courses. This bright well designed restaurant is a great place for the family, especially kids as the food is tasty, the service quick and the staff friendly. We dug into the 36 O&B Fondue which was a hit with the kids as it became highly interactive with the accompaniments. Pretty sure a connoisseur would react violently to onions, tomato and chili that went with this fondue but after the initial raised eyebrow and squashing voices on authenticity, the kid in me enjoyed it.
The rest of the dishes we ordered were delicious and hit the spot completely. The Prawn and Squid Ajillo (very authentic!), Basa Fillet with Lemon Parsley Butter, Wok Fried Potato in Thai Basil Sauce, Herbed Mushroom Pasta and the Vindaloo were excellent as was the Custard & Jelly and Virgin Irish Coffee. The two disappointments were the Chicken Slider and the Mash Potato that went with the Vindaloo.
Priced between Rs 300 and 600 per dish, we recommend this restaurant for quick weeknight meals if you are in the area and for comforting Sunday lunches.
