The most casual of all the Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurants, Mercer Kitchen does not disappoint whether you are sampling a slice of the Village or celebrating a special moment. Jean-Georges brings together the simplicity of really good food in a busy corner of Prince Street. Child friendly, intelligent, well informed staff and a gorgeous library with well thumbed books, a pleasant café/ deli upstairs and dining in a cool, yet inviting, cellar. The Shaved Fennel Salad is fresh and crunchy, the Eggs Benedict are really brunch specials but made to perfection with the buttery texture cracking with the toasty outside. The crabcakes are firm and the the fact that you can see people walk past upstairs only adds to the incongruity of the fine dining in old world tavernish charm.
